While a mask can conceal an identity, it can also establish a new one. This piece addresses the decision I made when I was seventeen to change my name. As culture we make decisions with the specific intent to change who we are. These changes can range from a haircut, buying a new car, getting married, or an extreme of plastic surgery; mainly decisions are made out of a need for happiness. Whether for cosmetic purposes, protection, or even a start at a new lifethis piece embodies a beginning, a creation of an identity.
